Adding glazed panels to porch roof

Adding glazed panels to porch roof

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert I have a porch at the front of my detached property. It is not fitted with central heating. I want to increase the amount of natural light in the porch by replacing some of the concrete tiling on the roof with two fixed glazed panels.

Given that I could build a porch without planning consent, do I require planning permission for this alteration?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. Hi Mark.

You are correct in saying you can build a porch without planning permission as long as it meets certain criteria including size, distance from boundary and if it’s on a listed building or within a conservation area.

As long as it still comes within this criteria you wouldn’t need planning permission.

This also applies to building warrant, you may require this depending on the size of the porch and what it contains. Find out more on our porch building warrant page http://doineedpermission.co.uk/building-warrant-porch/

Note although you may not require building warrant application or approval you are still required to ensure any alterations you make meet building regulations.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
