Blocking up single garage with blockwork and twin windows

Blocking up single garage with blockwork and twin windows

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Hi,

I am in the middle of erecting a large detatched garage within my property boundries and have the necessary Building Warrant. I plan to, in the near future, convert the existing single garage into a a useable space encorporating it into the existing dwellings. However, in the meantime, I want to re-use the garage door on the new one and build blockwork and windows into the space left by removing the door. To do this, will I need a warrant, or can I do this under “minor building work” or is this a planning permission job?

Many thanks

    Hi Alain.

You would not need planning permission for this unless you live in a conservation area or listed building.

You would need a buildng warrant.

Note a building warrant lasts 3 years, you would be better appliying for the warrant to convert the existing garage into the room you want.

Although you are only doing the window works to start with you will have a few years to complete the works should you wish.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
