Converting space to a downstairs toilet

Converting space to a downstairs toilet

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert We want to convert part of the extension to our kitchen to a down stairs toilet. This would involve blocking of the current back door and creating a window.there are french doors leading to a sun room also from this area.the sun room gives access to the garden. The alternative would be to build an extension to the side but we believe this would be very expensive. Would we require planning permission. Thank you

    Hello Mary

You would not need planning permission for an internal alteration to a building (but you might need listed building consent if it was listed). You would also not normally need planning permission to block up the external door and create a window, this would be permitted development. You would however need a building warrant for the works.

    Regards

    Mike
