Creating a room in a garage

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert I plan on using a corner of my garage as a room for band practice.
This will involve creating 2 x stud walls and using 2 x existing walls.
One of the stud walls will have a doorway, but no door.
I plan on finishing the stud walls with plaster and placing a layer of plaster over the 2 garage walls. All walls will have loft insulation inside them.

Will I need planning permission?
Will I need building regs approval?
Do fire regs apply ie creating a window within the room, as there will be a doorway, but no door.

Any comments appreciated.

    Hello Andrew.

It is unlikely you would require planning permission unless you live in a listed building or conservation area.

With regards to building warrant this isn’t really covered specifically in the building regulations. However my thoughts are if it is a fairly basic construction, partitions only, is open to the existing garage and perhaps described as a store it wouldn’t require a building warrant.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
