Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert

Hi there

I am about to rent out a commercial property in Glasgow, it is currently an open space and I will be doing some works to create some internal rooms. The walls will be non-load baring and will be ‘stud-partitions’ created from wooden framework and 8×4 plasterboard sheeting. I am aware of the fire safety aspects behind sizing etc. Could someone tell me if I would need a building warrant for such works?

Many thanks

  1. Hello Martin.

This would depend on what you are going to use the rooms for. If it was in any way related to being occupied by people e.g. offices it is likely you would require a building warrant.

Planning permission would only be required if you were changing the existing business use of the building to a class that would require the change. You can find more info on this at

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission
