Do i need planning permission or a building warrant

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Hi, I want to make a few alterations to my semi detached villa. (1) install a downstairs wc and sink in a cupboard under the stairs which isn’t ventilated.(2) replace an old original skylight window with one the same siize or slightly smaller so I wouldn’t be removing a truss but maybe adding an extra piece of support if i put in a slightly smaller window (3) put in double glazing to replace the old sash windows.I phoned the planning department at dundee city council about a year ago and was told i don’t need planning permission to put in the windows as long as i put in sash and case in the front and i could put different style at thei back if i wanted to. When phoned this week i was told i would need planning permission. I live in a conversation area and im so confused, Can you reply to my 3 questions please? Cheers

    Hi Ricky.

It depends what restrictions there is in the particular conservation area you live in. In some cases these can also restrict internal alterations.

The external alterations to the windows you will definitely need permission for this.

In normal cases where there is no conservation restrictions you would not need permission for these types of alterations.

Building warrant wise you would only need permission for these alteration of you are making structural changes or changes to the mains drainage etc…

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
