Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert HI to the rear off our property which is a semi detached cottage there was a flat roof extension built when we bought it could you tell me if i would need planning permission to change it to a tiled roof to match the house and put better insulation on

    Alex.

    You can make alterations to your property without planning permission where you are not enlarging the property and you meet the following criteria.

    It would not protrude more than 1 metre from the outer surface of an external wall, roof plane, roof ridge or chimney of the dwellinghouse
    Is not a raised platform or terrace.

    Development is permitted by this class subject to the condition that the materials used for any roof covering must be as similar in appearance to the existing roof covering as is reasonably practicable.

    Note this type of work would require a building warrant as your are making alterations to the structure of the building.
