Kitchen door removal

Kitchen door removal

The owners of house we have been looking to purchase in Scotland have recently replaced an external door with a window.

This leaves the only external door egress from the house via a sunroom adjoining the Kitchen and we are concerned that in the event of a fire starting in the kitchen we have no means of escape.

What, if any, planning permission should have been applied for in order to legally carry out this alteration ?

Kind regards

Unlikely planning permission would have been required unless the property is listed or in a conservation area.

Building warrant would have been required. You will be able to check if this was applied for at the local building control department.

It is hard to tell without seeing a layout of the property but a kitchen doesn’t necessarily need to have an external door. It would depend on the other entrances/exists available.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
