Loft Hatch in top floor tenement

Loft Hatch in top floor tenement

Hello,
I would like to install a slightly larger loft hatch into the attic space above my top floor (owned) tenement flat. I will have to cut through and make safe a beam or joist – do I need to alter the deeds/seek permission? The space is only going to be used for storage, but the existing hatch is extremely difficult to access. This should help subsequent tenants and hopefully allow easier access in the future for anyone else in the stair.
Thanks for your help!

    Hello.

This would not require planning permission unless the building was listed or in a conservation area.

As this is a temement it would require a building warrant.

You may also require the permission of the other owners as the roof/structure may be a shared responsibility.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
