Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert

Hi there

I’m looking to purchase a property in a category B listed building in Dundee. It is a penthouse flat in an old hospital conversion. The living room as a large pyramidal roof with large metal beams traversing it. It’s pretty cavernous. Do I need planning permission if I wanted to put decking on this floor and convert it to a mezzanine? No changes to the exterior of the building will be made.

Thanks

    Hi Alistair.

You would need planning permission, listed building consent and building warrant for this alteration.

You may also need the check your title deeds to see if you own this space. Sometimes in flats or apartments the roof spaces are communal to the entire building although it might only be you that can access it.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
