New Garage

New Garage

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Hi,

I am looking to construct a new garage to the rear of my property and have reviewed the technical guidance on this website which is all okay, however it will be constructed in close proximity to an existing conservatory and the guidance does not note the minimum distance between the garage and the existing property (this proposed pathway would be the only access from the front to the back garden). I think it is 1m, however I cannot find any legislation that confirms this.

Many thanks in advance.

    Hello Neil.

Although you can build a garage when it meets the criteria without a building warrant the garage should still meet the building regulations.

As the garage will be next to a conservatory which I assume is glazed on the elevation that will face the garage the garage should be minimum 1 metre away from the conservatory.

You can get a copy of the building regulation here,

    http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Built-Environment/Building/Building-standards/techbooks/techhandbooks

And if you look at the FIRE sections 2.6.1.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
