Partial partition wall in garage

Partial partition wall in garage

Our house is 4.5 years old. When built the double garage has the homes utility area running along the back wall. It is very cold in the winter. We have looked at insulating the garage doors, but working out very expensive. If we were to leave the doors in place as they are, and instead put a partition wall across the full width ie cutting the garage in half length wise – allowing the utility area to be more enclosed and hopefully warmer. Would we need any permission for this? Thanks in advance

Yes, a building warrant is required for this type of work.

You may find the floor in the garage is also not insulated. For building warrant you may have to upgrade wall and floor insulation plus provision of extract/ventilation and install a fire door (between garage/utility) if required.

It may be worth considering doing a full garage conversion (perhaps utility and additonal reception room) if the space remaining is not large enough for a car.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
