Do I Need Permission For A Driveway

Do I need planning permission for a driveway. Cars would have to cross the width of a normal sized pavement to get into driveway.

    Hello Michelle.

For planning permission this is classed as permitted development (not requiring planning permission) if the following criteria are met,

    · Not in a conservation area.

    · Not in the boundary of a listed building.

    · The surface must be a porous material or provision made for preventing water run off onto and footpaths or roads.

For building warrant you can build a hard standing (driveway) without a building warrant as long as the area created or overall area of existing plus new hard standing is not more than 200 metres squared.

You may need to get permission from the councils roads department if you require a new dropped kerb to be installed.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
