Portakabin

Portakabin

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert We are actually Highland council, we live in a company house right next to my husbands work. The next nearest building is around 1 mile or more away. Do we need to apply for planning permission for a portakabin 48 foot by 13 in our garden if my husbands company has said it’s OK? Also the land owners are fine with it they told us to just ask the company.

    Morning Sarah,

Unfortunately, from the information provided, I am unable to confirm if Planning Permission is required. It really depends on the siting in relation to the house, boundaries and the closest roads and or Listed Building/Conservation Area status.

In most cases, if it is sited behind the ‘Principal Elevation’ of the house and not closer to a road, it would be classed as permitted development and therefore would not require formal planning permission. If you could provide me your address, a plan of your house/plot and the distances the portakabin would be from the house and boundaries, I could give you a more precise answer.

    Regards
