Proximity to adjacent house property

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Do I need planning permission if house extension is within 1 metre of neighbours boundary wall. My proposed extension meets all other requirements. Thank you

  1. Hi Norman.

    You can go right up to your property boundary as long as you meet the other criteria for permitted development.

    If you are unsure you can apply for a letter of comfort or confirmation from your local council that your proposal falls within the permitted development criteria.

    I would anyway recommend getting this as it can be useful should you sell your property and gives you piece of mind. Some councils do this for free but others do charge a fee.
