Replacement stairway

Replacement stairway

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Considering replacement of steep, narrow (650 mm wide) stairway. Firstly do I need a building warrant to replace the stairway so it is less steep? If yes, replacement treads and risers can meet building regulations but the width cannot be changed from 650 mm due to the space available, so would it be possible to obtain a building warrant?

    Hi Shirley.

Yes you can get a building warrant for the stair being narrower than current regulations require.

Where you are making alteration to existing buildings building control realise there will be restrictions. It’s normally the case as long as you are not making it worse than previous it’s acceptable.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
