Requirement for a builders warrant

Requirement for a builders warrant

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Hi, we converted our garage into a play room which involved cutting a hole in the wall for a doorway from the existing house into the garage conversion. We successfully applied for a builders warrant for this.
Subsequently we cut another door from elsewhere in the garage into the kitchen area giving us 2 separate access points into the conversion. Do I require a builders warrant or any other documentation from the council for the 2nd doorway being cut as I am in the process of moving house and don’t want to get caught out.
Many thanks

    Hello Robert.

This will depend in if the door is located in a load bearing partition or not.

If it is in a loadbearing partition you would need a building warrant.

If its in a non-loadbearing partition you could apply for a letter of comfort from your local building control department that would confirm no warrant was required.

It may be worth doing this if you think it will be raised as an issue when you house sale goes through.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
