Roof terrace on b listed townhouse

Roof terrace on b listed townhouse

We own the top two floors of a b listed townhouse in Glasgow west end and would like to convert the roof to a low key terrace. It would not be visible from the street and would cause no visual obstruction. How do we proceed.

    Hello Cheryl.

This will require planning permission, listed building consent and building warrant. You may also have to come to agreements with other owners in the building as to the ownership and responsibility for maintaining the roof/terrace as it will become.

I would recommend finding a local architect with has knowledge of the local area and listed buildings and get them to come a visit you to start with. Most architects will offer an initial consultation free of charge to provide you with proposed costs etc…

Do a bit of research to see if anyone else in the area has done something similar, you can normally search for planning applications on the council’s website. It’s useful to see if anyone has done something similar and if their permission was granted.

    Hope the above is useful.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
