Shipping Container Change of Use

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently in the research phase to an experimental architecture project. I have read totally the ‘Do I need Planning Permission – Change of Use’ page, and the ‘Do I need Planning Permission for a New Build’ page and neither seemed to answer my questions.
Do I need planning permission to convert a 20ft long, 8ft wide (6.09m x 2.44m) (14.8596 m^2) shipping container or site office into a dwelling which is stationary and permanent? And do I fill out forms for a new build or a change of use?

    Rev Jack,

    It sounds like you have a potentially interesting project on the horizon. The answer to your specific question is not straightforward as it depends on a number of variables, including site specific constraints and title deeds. Please also note that in addition to planning permission, you will also need technical drawings and a building warrant. I have some experience of working on conversions in your area and an interest in reuse and regeneration.
