To convert cupboard into walk in wardrobe

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Hi, we don’t know if we need a permission to convert upstairs cupboard into walk in-wardrobe, to remove two cupboards in living room and to remove a cupboard beside the main entrance inside? Also we want to build a fence in front garden, do we need a permission for that?
We live in Arbroath, Angus. Where to contact and ask if we need a permission?
Many thanks.

This question has been asked in a Scottish region any response below will be specific to Scottish Planning Permission or Building Regulation advice.

  1. Hi Laima.

For the internal alterations it’s unlikely you would require planning Permission unless you live in a listed building or conservation area.

You wouldn’t need planning Permission for the fence as long as it’s under 1m in height where forward of the front elevation of your house. This is also assuming not a listed building or conservation area.

You might require a building warrant for the internal alterations. This would be required if you are making alterations to any of the load bearing walls. This includes forming new doors in a load bearing wall.

If the internal walls are entirely within non load bearing walls it’s possibly you would not require a building warrant.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
