Tree house

Tree house

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert I am thinking of building a tree house with the thought of letting it out in the summer months. I am wandering if I need planning permission, building warrant? The proposed area is on my croft so overlooking neighbors shouldn’t b an issue as they live over 100 meters away

    Morning Iain,

Unfortunately, it is not an easy question to answer if you need planning permission or not with the information provided. It all really depends on the size of the structure in question, height above ground, proximity to other buildings/landuses and the purpose of the tree house (I was once involved with one for a distillery who were using it for corporate meetings!!). If you want to drop me a quick email with a sketch of what you are proposing and a basic site plan, I should be able to assist further.

In terms of a Building Warrant, if it is a fairly basic structure (with no toilets and the like) and it is for domestic use (i.e. kids playing); a building warrant is unlikely to be required.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
