Velux windows on home extension

Do I Need Permission - Ask An Expert Could any one help with a question. My daughter building an extension, planning permission has been approved, she is adding 2 bedrooms, her existing bedroom is going to have a velux window fitted,  the room being approx. 10.5 sq/m Local authority asking for structural engineer report for window, is this always the case, even if windows can fit between existing joists. without breaking into existing roof,
Many thanks

    Hello Ewan.

Yes they can ask for this.

It’s will not be to do with no alteration to the existing roof trusses it is likely to be how you plan on strengthening the existing roof trusses either side of the velux to support the additional weight. e.g. doubling up the joists either side.

A detail by an architect or architectural technician may suffice.

Thanks for using Do I Need Permission.
